The Bentley Engineering Group, whose works was in New Bridge Street, Leicester, was, in the 1950s/60s, the world’s largest manufacturer of industrial knitting machines. Foreign competition, from Italy and the Far East saw a steady decline, production finally ending in 1988.

I’m not sure why a Nottingham brewery was advertising in a guide to Leicester, but here is one for Shipstones of New Basford. As is indicated, it opened in 1852, brewing continuing until 1991.

Paper-back based on the excellent TV-series that ran from 1973-76, actually published after the demise of the series in 1977. Bought for a few pence at a jumble sale today, I see there is a copy on eBay for £12.50….. Good luck selling that! Paula Wilcox, who played Chrissy, features on the cover.
