Red Star Weekly on Flickr.
It always amazes me as to what was deemed acceptable in a family magazine, just only a few years ago. Red Star Weekly, a title of which I was previously unaware, featured romantic stories aimed, of course, at a female readership, as well as features, reader’s letters, cartoons, adverts and agony aunt ‘Dear Madge’. It appears to have been published from at least the 1940s until the 1980s, the issue here dated 19 April 1969. It was published by DC Thomson & Co., from the same stable as The Beano and The Dandy, being of a similar size and quality. One of three copies, recently picked up in a local second-hand shop.
